Michelin Starred Restaurants in Spain 2013

There was a great celebration party tonight  in Madrid at the Ritz Hotel following the announcement of the new Spain Michelin Guide 2013.   This year we are delighted to report a mighty Twenty new Michelin Stars in Spain!

Two new Michelin 3 star restaurants  – Quique Dacosta Restaurante (Denia, Alicante) and Azurmendi (Larrabetzu, Vizcaya), the latter of which was a great surprise,  as its chef Eneko Atxa had just recieved his second Michelin star two years ago.   He represents a new generation of Basque chefs with very clear ideas about cuisine,  inspired with the product and recipes from his surroundings.  Another surprise for many people was that, unfortunately, Mugaritz, a great 2 starred Basque restaurant did not receive a well deserved 3rd Michelin star.  Contrary to what was speculated, Madrid did not receive any three stars, although it does  maintain 6 restaurants with 2 Michelin stars – Sant Celoni, Diverxo, Ramón Freixa, Sergi Arola Gastro, la Terraza del Casino and our favorite Club Allard.

Moments of  chef Raul Balam ( son of 3 Michelin starred chef Carmen Ruscalleda),  also  in Barcelona.
